Thome Doesn't Score
Jim Thome failed to score in a game for the first time this season this afternoon. He's scored 22 runs in 18 games this season. We like to think of run scorers as the fast, leadoff men, but six of the top ten in runs scored were known more for their power than for their speed. In fact, most had the deadly combination of a high OBA and power. The OBA means they're on base when their teammates hit. The power means they score on their own (home runs) or get themselves on base in scoring position. Thome's showing both of these attributes in excess this season.

re: Jim Thome & Ryan Howard
While Thome is having himself a good April in Chicago (he had one of those a few years ago here in Philly, 15 home runs), Ryan Howard yesterday hit a Home Run 500 Feet, over the CF wall, over the CF structures, and off the Placque in CF honoring Dick Allen. How ironic. Howard is the new Dick Allen.
The HR, one of two Howard hit, is the longest ever hit in Citizens Bank Park and may be the longest ever hit by a Phillie since Dick Allen played in the 60s.
Howard is now leading the Phils in Batting Average, On Base Percentage, Slugging Percentage and OPS, and he's just heating up.
