Pathetic Offense
The Chicago White Sox shut out the Kansas City Royals 9-0 this evening as Jose Contreras and two relievers combined for a one hitter. When teams are held to so few hits, you have to wonder if it's the pitching or the offense. One look at the Kansas City offensive numbers and it's not difficult to see the reason for this low-hit game. Six of the nine starters are now batting under .250. Six have OBA's under .300. Seven are slugging under .400. I suspect there will be a few low hitters against the Royals this season.

And Kansas City's pitching is even worse. This team could legitimately challenge 120 losses. Damn, they are bad...
Agreed. Now what looks more intriguing is the AL central race with the other 4 teams in the mix. Any takers?
Last night's game was a bit of both. The plate ump had a generous strikezone, giving several inches off the outside. Contreras used the expanded strikezone to his advantage. Mays used it as well when he could, striking out five in six innings, but mostly he threw up a lot of fat pitches.
I agree with david above. I know it's early, but this team could threaten some all-time records for futility. The fans in Kansas City deserve better.
