Will Mays Last 'til May?

Joe Mays is getting hammered again. In two innings tonight, he's allowed five hits, and the league is now batting .400 against the former Twin. In nine innings pitched so far, he's allowed seven walks and five home runs.

At some point, Mays needs to show he can get batters out. The Kansas City offense isn't good enough to withstand a starter getting pounded everytime out.

All their pitchers are dreadful right now - check out Gobble (11 baserunners and 3 homers allowed in 4 innings), Stemle 18 baserunners allowed and no strikeouts in 6 innings) and Affeldt (20 baserunners allowed in 7 innings) for more examples. And this team has no minor leaguers ready to pitch, and nobody to trade for any help. It's sad to see a team like Florida play poorly, but at least you can watch them progress and know they will be good someday. Kansas City has no present and no future either. Truly awful job of running and managing a baseball team by mrs. Glass and Baird.

But it's not awful from the owners point of view, as they are pretty much just pocketing the money they get from revenue sharing.

I'm a Twins fan, and Joe Mays is one of my favorite players, but it's pretty obvious that he can't get the job done right now, and maybe never will. The trouble for the Royals is that if they had any good options, they'd be using them.

At some point, though, even a bad option is going to be better.
