Beltre Breaks Slump?

Adrian Beltre just scored the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth to give Seattle a 6-5 lead over the Red Sox. Beltre is 2 for 3 today with a walk and two runs scored. His batting average is only up to .143, but it's a start.

re; adrian beltre vs david bell

two years ago, david bell put up decent numbers for the phils, he was about 33 then. last year, he showed marked signs of decline. so far this year, his ops is in the low 600s and most every reserve infielder in baseball is outhitting him. Mike Lieberthal's OPS is 200 points higher than bell's.

i have respect for the son of Buddy Bell and the grandson of Gus Bell; the three all told have slugged a Ruthian number of homers, and all were sound ballplayers, all-stars at their best.

But right now, Adrian Beltre would be tre better than David Bell right now, with an age advantage to boot, for the Phils, and I imagine the Mariners would be happy to part company and pay a lot of Beltre's salary in the process a la Jim Thome.

Beltre is a fastball hitter, and he would do better in the NL, and he will do a lot better in the bandbox that is Citizens Bank Park in the hot east coast summer.

Right now, he is the best option the Phils have unless they can swing some other deal for a Youkilis or a Tejada or a minor league guy.

The Mets have a greek american kid in the minors at 3b who is blocked by David Wright, Grant Psomas, who can play. He's worth pursuing for the phils as well.
