One Base At a Time
The Red Sox used nine singles and six walks to push four runs across the plate today. That was enough as Tim Wakefield and three relievers held the Orioles to one unearned run. Wakefield threw the knuckler for strikes today, with 62 of his 93 pitches in the plus column.
The Red Sox have now outscored their opponents 33-24 over six games. They're playing close games and coming out on top.

looks like knuckleballs do NOT knuckle in arlington
also looks like bard is getting a little more comfortable catching the knuckler.
Bard and the rest of the boys looked good today.
Plus, it was almost a home game atmosphere, with the number of Sox fans at the Yards.
Lisa: According to Wakefield himself (in the Globe) it was just the opposite in Arlington: His "stuff" was moving *too* much, making it difficult to throw near the zone and giving Bard fits.
Meanwhile... I noticed a lot of empty seats at the Yards during this series with the O's, even with a heavy contingent of Boston fans filling up space. Have the Nationals really eaten into the Birds' fan base that much?
I would say that crappy teams for almost a decade is what has eaten into the Birds' fan base.
It goes back to the idea that he pitches better in the Metrodome, because the ball doesn't move as much and he's better able to put the ball where he wants it. I don't know if the Metrodome thing is fact or just hearsay though. Something to take a look at though.
