Baseball Musings Today

Here's my second try at a video summary of the previous day. I-Tunes doesn't seem to download this file, but you can click here to see the show. It's shorter with slightly better production values.

Update: Youtube.com allows me to embed here.

David is this you in the video? I find it kind of disappointing that you are basically doing a "traditional" recap of the games, mentioning less important stats like RBIs and you even go as far as saying K's are a bad thing. Yes we all know K's are an out and in turn any out is bad but singling out strikeouts from other outs is a "traditional" way of thinking.

I was just a little surprised hearing that come from a guy like you. I'd prefer a more SABR oriented recap.

Yes, it's me in the video. As for the content, I'm still working on it. I'd like to keep it short as possible and still have it meaningful. I'll have to go back and listen to the strikeout comment. I think it was in the context of not striking out against Santana, and that being a good thing, although I guess it didn't come out that way. This is why I prefer writing.

The other, thing, however, is that I'm thinking this can be a very quick recap of scores for someone who doesn't want to spend 1/2 hour watching the TIVO of your favorite highlight show. It's a work in progress. Thanks for letting me know what you think.

Antonio,

Also, remember, the audience here is broad. While there are people like you who prefer a sabermetric look at the games, there are also fantasy players who are interested in the more traditional stats. So there's always going to be a mixture. Not all games are sabermetrically interesting. Sometimes, a player having a good game is the story.

Long time reader, first time poster.
David, don't take this bad but I was wondering if there's anything you could show as a background to your voice: I was thinking about something like the boxscore of the game you are talking about, or other stats, or pictures of players you mention, or..uhm...no idea. As it is now I just listen to your voice, watching the screen doesn't add much at all (please understand that I'm not trying to offend you). I hate it when commentators appear on camera (how many times do I need to see Madden or Joe Morgan?), I'd rather see footage or numbers; I know you can't legally do that, but maybe you can come up with something else.
Just a thought. Thanks.

Hippoes. Yes, I've thought of that, too. It would be great to get a highlight in there. Also, if I had better video software, I could do full screen graphics, which could also make the show more sabermetric. If anyone goes to a game and has a picture or video they'd like to send it, I'd be happy to include it.

David, makes sense. I guess this early in the season it would be meaningless to mention what some ones OBP is.

I also agree with Hippoes comment.

hi david!!!

i can't believe that is you - you look like you maybe 30 not 45.

why you got a poster of the worldwide leader behind you?????? too much stuff in the background. and i don't think you need highlights. but i would also like you to say more stuff than we get with usual sports reporters.
