Bubbling Brewers Fans

You could hear the excitement in the stands during yesterday's Pirates-Brewers game. Greg Giesen spoke with fans, and this one is typical:

"They're going to be 10 games over .500 and I think they will be in the playoff race until late September," Andreasen said Scott Behringer of Neenah, who, along with his friend Steve Fahrenkrug, spray-pained his upper torso blue with "Brew Crew" in yellow letters on their chests, believes the Brewers' young talent will lead them to a 92-70 season.

"They've got a lot of good young prospects. It's all about the young guys," Behringer said Chris Marshall, a former Racine resident who lives in Madison, said he hasn't been this excited about the Brewers since the 1987 team won their first 13 games.

Nice to see the enthusiasm returning to Milwaukee.

That enthusiasm doesn't seem to be translating into ticket sales yet. I just bought tickets to their Latin American tribute day (when they'll play as the Cerveceros) and got seats in the 7th row behind the visitor's dugout.

Isn't "10 games over .500" 86 and 76?

Scott:

Actually I think their season ticket sales and all ticket sales are way up, at least that's what local papers and bloggers have said during spring training.

New ownership is actually doing something that the car salesman never thought to do, which is to put some of the profit from the team back into advertising and payroll, and do fun promotions. Mark A. is like a god to us Brewers fans, just because he actually acts responsible and is interested in winning... what a revelation.

- Why, yes it is? I don't think you read the paragraph carefully enough? There are two different people being quoted there.

Ah, yes. Thank you, jmd.

Ticket sales are up, and even the 2nd game crowd of 15K is a nice 10-25% increase, as April games never draw.
