Tiger Tanked
Carlos Pena received his release from the Tigers today. Pena was a hot prospect at one time. He certainly showed power for his low batting and on-base averages. If some team is looking for a player than can finish an offensive sequence, Pena might be their man.

C'mon Boston! Pick him up and trade David Ortiz for Johan Santana.
Um, what makes you think the Twins wouldn't laugh that deal out of the room? A guy they gave up on? a 30 yr old who can't play the field any more? for $7.25M for the next year, and then free agency? for the AL's top starter? a 27 yr old strikeout lefty ace? under their control for $30M over three years?
Not that I think that Pena would be a bad pickup for the Sox - more power bats is rarely a bad thing, but they'd have to trade Ortiz, Ramirez, and about $100M before it would come close to being an equal deal. The Red Sox picked Ortiz off the scrap heap and turned him into an MVP candidate; Santana-caliber pitching is not that easy to find.
Calm down there, Sparky. I don't think James was even remotely serious.
i can remember when texas signed a-rod, and a-rod raved about the texas farm system -- specifically about pena and his swing/power -- as a primary reason that he wanted to be a ranger. funny how things change.
