Mr. Pinto I am loving all the mets analysis today

my ideal mets lineup:
reyes ss
beltran cf
wright 3b
delgado 1b
floyd lf
diaz/nady rf
loduca c
hernandez (hopefully) or matsui 2b

the mets also have jose valentin on their bench- remember him? he hit 30 HR not too long ago (though his average was .225). he is capable of playing all the IF spots and could be a sleeper for the 2b job...

Forget about it. Why is everyone stuck with Reyes leading off? Bat him ninth, and beltran first. Did the computer simulate that lineup?

is beltran's OBP that much better than reyes'?

Beltran's OBp last year was 330, Reyes' was an even 300. Career-wise, Beltran is at 350, Reyes at 303. That's a huge difference. Reyes is not that great of a player - honestly, he's like Soriano without the power. I'd lead off with Beltran.

The point of the article is that it doesn't matter what the lineup is. Lots of studies have determined that lineup order really has little to do with the productivity of the lineup - it depends on the players that you put in it.

For some reason, people insist on making lineup order a test of how good a manager is. It doesn't matter how many studies conclude that the lineup order doesn't matter, if the lineup isn't perfect, the manager is an idiot.
