Clemens to Retire
Clemens tells USA Today he'll retire after the World Baseball Classic. Unless he doesn't.
Clemens, who turns 44 in August, left himself an out, however. He could sign with a team -- most likely a contender -- later this summer.
Clemens is very competitive. My guess is that at some point he finds a team.
Baseball Musings is conducting a pledge drive in March. Click here for details.
It's ridiculous to think he'll end his career after the numbers he posted in 2005. He's still got plenty left in him.
Its just Roger being Roger. Last year he didn't have to travel unless he was pitching. This year he'll pitch for whoever has the best chance of winning. Stay tuned I think you will see a lot more of this .
Does anyone else find this kind of behavior from a veteran pitching obnoxious? I imagine younger players, well actually anyone on the team including managerial staff, would be annoyed not to know when this guy is going to show up.
I don't find it obnoxious. I think he is a guy who thinks -- whether he is fooling himself or not -- that he has put in a long career and has little left to accomplish, and could be just as happy or more happy not pitching. So he is just going to make the decision on his own terms, and if any team doesn't want to to accept those terms, that's fine for all involved.
I think if the 'Stros are decent come May 1st he'll be back, but I don't see him coming back to play for a team that doesn't have a shot.
i've heard this one before.
just offer him a golden hummer and he will pitch
