Priced Too Low?

The Birdwatch wonders if the Cardinals priced their tickets too low:

It seems to me there's something wrong when tickets sell that quickly. Don't misunderstand me; as a fan, I like to go to games and, as a little cog in corporate America, I like to keep my money in the stock market. But I think the Cardinals underpriced their tickets for 2006. I suppose there's a PR-angle to consider -- the Cardinals don't want Bernie Miklasz kvetching about ticket prices and then re-hashing payroll promises and urinal sales again -- and there are long-term relationships to maintain. My amateur opinion is still that prior to St. Patrick's Day a baseball team shouldn't be a virtual sellout for the entire season.

This could be a "truce" flag to the St. Louis fans, many of whom [from my understanding] are miffed by the St. Louis treatement of fans in the offseason, from harsh broadcasting changes, to what many perceive as a frivolous new stadium (what was wrong with old Busch stadium, exactly?), to reduced payroll. This may be an effort to keep their great fan base happy.

They're a great team with a passionate fan base, AND they're playing in a brand new stadium--why is it a surprise that their tickets are going quickly? The Red Sox have this problem every year, and Fenway has the most expensive seats in the league (or pretty close to it--I know they were highest a couple years ago). They've also resorted to a lottery system for many of their more desirable tickets (Yankees, Monster, etc.). Of course, Fenway's size creates a supply issue, but I'd just scoop up whatever tickets you can (even broker/scalper seats probably aren't that bad in StL) and enjoy the ride.

"what was wrong with busch stadium?"

good question actually...i never thought about that one....

The old Busch didn't have the high priced box seats. That is what was wrong with it from the owners point of view.

Anyway, this is only to be expected, the Cardinals sell al ot of tickets period, but the new stadium holds far, far fewer people. Like 10,000 less.
