Making a First Impression

Dana Rogers donated $50 to Baseball Musings and dedicates this post to the Houston Astros.

Phil Garner talks about prospects making a good impression in spring training.

That type of can-do attitude is important to Garner, who believes a positive attitude can help a player in the future when it comes to in-season call-ups or potential trades.

"For guys that need to make an impression, all games are important, although we're not going to trash you on the first week or two weeks," Garner said. "What you can see is hustle, attitude ... sometimes the ability to make an adjustment will show up.

"Sometimes it's hard for players to realize that your spring leaves an impression, and if you have a rotten spring it's not necessarily a bad impression, but if you have a rotten spring and you've moped around and haven't worked hard and let it beat you down, that's not a good impression."

It's probably the difference between getting a second look and staying in the minors if you're on the bubble.
