Rays on the Right Track

Management by Baseball likes what he's seeing from the Devil Rays new ownership:

Most turnaround efforts might have gotten that right. But it's the universally powerful and rarely-used supercharge technique, one of my own favorites, that I suspect will make the most difference in their effort to gain respectability.

According to a story by Alexis Muellner in the Tampa Bay Business Journal, executive management are finding out all the turnaround knowledge stored in the heads of the Devil Ray line staff.

The new owners are listening to long time employees who never before had a voice. They're generating ideas, ways to improve the organization. With luck, some of them will be good ones.

Maybe, with some luck and guts, the devil rays will finally have a nice stadium in Tampa and not the worst stadium in all of sports in St. Petersburg. I feel that, other than players, is the most important thing the devil rays need to improve on.

As someone who's seen plenty of games at the Trop....the stadium is the least of their concerns. Building the organization's first 70+ win team should be priority #1.

And with the young talent, that shouldn't be hard. What's hard is taking the next step and building the first true contending team. That will take something no long time employee can provide...a monetary commitment from the owner. But things are moving forward - which is a great sign.

If a team ever needed a do-over, it is the AAA d-Rays.....I really hope for baseball's sake that they get it right this time because that organization was/is a disaster from top to bottom. In my humble opinion it is a team that should not be...too many teams...and Florida doesn't seem to want to support regular season baseball.
