I Can Still Use LAnanheim!
The jury decided in favor of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, letting the team keep the lengthy name as it's official moniker. They'll be the LAnaheim Angels forever more on this site.
There's a discussion starting at the OCRegister if you'd like to voice your opinion of the verdict.
Frankly, I'm surprised. I thought the Angels had a good case. It looks like the jury respected the letter of the agreement, rather than the intent.

It makes sense, let Moreno make money so he can field a winning team. The mayor and city council should be thrown out of office for bringing this frivilous suit.

Nope. Im ssticking with the Anaheim Angels, New Jersey Giants, New Jersey Jets & Auburn Hills Pistons. If you want to be associated with a city, move to it.
I'm not surprised by the verdict. The Angels took advantage of some very vague language in the lease, and the city's argument that they lost $150 million in "lost impressions" is pretty specious... particularly in light of the fact that the city's made more in attendance bonuses in the 2 1/2 years Arte's owned the team than in the entire combined years of Autry/Disney ownership.
Bottom line... Angels have a top 5 payroll, but their average ticket prices are about 16th in the league. Arte's shown he's willing to spend to keep the team competitive. In that scenario, I've got no problem with him trying to extract every marketing dollar he can to do so.
Anaheim is Anaheim, L.A. is L.A. seems to me they
re two different cities. why can't we just let baseball be baseball and let the pros play where they will?
Next thing you know, USA will be USAatIran.
I dont know, maybe im in a pissy mood...
Wasn't there a clause that said 'your name makes no sense'?
Anaheim did have a good argument, but so did the Angels. In many states Anaheim would not have even gotten to the jury, given the plain language of the contract to the contrary. Frankly I was always sceptical about the city's claim that it negotiated for the city's name to be included, because it was dealing with Disney at the time, which had its own strategy to build a brand around Anaheim for its own purposes. Anaheim lived happily enough with the California Angels and Los Angeles Rams earlier.
To me, the name is awkward, but a controversy only for those who want to create a high-school rivalry like battle between Anaheim and L.A.
california angels still better than la or anaheim
