Burroughs Rebound?

Sean Burroughs shows a very positive attitude after a poor 2005 season in this article:

"I'm not one for making excuses, but I definitely wasn't physically strong when I went to spring training last year," he says. "If you recall, I tore up my knee during the final month of the 2004 season at Dodger Stadium, and had to undergo surgery. I was on crutches for six weeks.

"I was unable to do any of the weight training I normally did, and came to spring training camp pretty weak. I wasn't even able to take ground balls until the second week.

"That has all changed this off-season. I've got myself in great shape, and my legs are 150 percent stronger than they were a year ago. I'm really looking forward to playing in Tampa Bay. I hear the park there is a lot more hitter friendly than Petco. And I also hear good things about the new Tampa Bay manager (former Angel bench coach Joe Maddon)."

I don't know how much of a difference the park will make for Sean. In his two seasons at PETCO his slugging percentages home and away were an identical (and low) .342.

I hope Sean figures it out, but weak pop-ups to left are outs in any ballpark. Until he starts driving the ball with any kind of authority, he's not going to have much success at this level.

I wouldn't say burroughs stinks, as one poster did, but he seems to project more as a pinch-hitter-type. He can hit for a decent average and his defense seems fine, but it just looks like he's never gonna hit enough to be a major league third baseman. Having said that, he's still relatively young, and who knows? He's certainly got a brighter future ahead of him than Dewon friggin' Brazelton. Maybe not brighter, but he at least has a future, if just as a pinch-hitter.

maybe a dave magaden, but the padres drafting him so high? what did the padres see in a him, a singles hitting third baseman. the padres will have a lot more production this year 3rd if it's castila or whoever

I'm sure when he was younger he looked better - I recall the Pads always hoping his power would develop. Obviously, they didn't think they were drafting a "singles-hitting third baseman" - they thought he would develop, like any team who drafts any player in the history of baseball has hoped. As a Padres fan, I hope the Pads get more production out of Castilla, but as someone who's always been mighty skeptical of Vinny, I'm not sure that he's going to contribute at all.
