Which Model

Now that all positions are published, I wonder which model people like better? Let me know in the comments if you prefer the original model or the smoothed visiting player model.

The whole PMR thread is here.

What would be wrong with averaging the two sets of rankings?

My main concern with the smoothed visitor model is that it overrates players who play in positions that are difficult to defend in their home park. A good example of this is the Minnesota outfield -- the ceiling takes some getting used to, so you would expect visiting OFers to do poorly there. In fact, all three regular Twin outfielders do better in the smoothed visitor model than in the original model.

Brian Giles is about 6 runs better in the smoothed visitor, and the bizarre layout of Petco's right field may be a large factor in that.

However, I see why you have that model; my current solution is to average the two together. Most players are withing a couple of runs, anyway, the large differences are the exception.
