GM Tejada
Miguel Tejada continues to be upset with the Orioles lack of moves:
"If the Orioles don't do anything, I want them to trade me because I am tired of losing,'' Tejada said before a winter league game.
If he isn't traded by the Orioles, Tejada said he would "respect the game as I have always done.''
"I am not asking for a team of superstars, I only want a good group that helps me to win,'' he said.
Miguel, it's supposed to be "help us to win." You're a member of a team. Believe it or not, the Orioles don't exist to get you a championship.

Did Dontrelle Willis complain a single time this offseason?
I believe D-Train said he looked forward to the challenge of leading a group of rookies. Something to that effect. Not - Me wanna win. Me no wanna play for losers. ME.
as much as he sounds like a whiner...he does have a point. the baltimore ownership and managment is a shitshow. they would rather sell tickets than win a championship.
Yeah, but realistically, he knew that when he signed there, he was going to be on a 3rd place team at best.
And also, Willis probably has a better chance of winning a WS in the next 5 years than Tejada does. The Marlins will be a contender in a couple of years, thanks to their fire sale.
Yeah, I'll admit, that's total complaining after-the-fact in the part of Tejada, he knew what he was getting into. With that said, I'll forgive him if he's the result of a Manny trade :).
It's hard to get a deal done when you make your desire to be traded public. And really, it wasn't like Tejada was the missing piece when he got to the O's. The majority of MLB teams play out the string.
Dr. J once said playing professional basketball is getting paid to do something you love even when you don't want to be there. Insert baseball for basketball.
Tejada needs some perspective.
I agree that Tejada is going about this the wrong way, but I don't blame him at all for wanting to get moved. Professional sports are among the only jobs in the world where if you happen to make a career decision for the wrong reason, you're stuck with it. I can quit my job any time I want, but Tejada is stuck in Baltimore in a losing situation unless he makes a big stink. He put himself there, but as we've seen time and time again in recent years, making a big stink works. Ask Baron Davis, Vince Carter, Terrell Owens, ...
I agree with Tony Flynn. This situation reminds of Corey Dillon when he played for the Cincinatti Bengals. He developed a reputation as a whiner/club house cancer because like Tejada he publicly challenged the front offices's committment to winning. As it turned out he was genuine in that as soon as he got onto a team that was committed to winning (The Patriots) you didn't hear boo out of him. I think perhaps Tejada deserves the benefit of the doubt until he proves otherwise.
Baltimore Orioles shortstop Miguel Tejada, who had previously said he would sit out this winter season, already started to bat for one team of his native Dominican Republic. 2 years ago, Tejada left Oakland for Baltimore and signed for a 6 year, 72 million dollar deal. Just 2 years into the deal, he wants out. The Orioles are losers. Big time losers. they haven't had a winning season in 7 years.

One thing for Tejada...he clearly does want to win, and badly. No doubt he's a whiner. Furthermore, it's hard to have sympathy for someone making $12 million a year to play a game most of us dream to play a fraction as well as he does. But he's definitely driven to win. Last year he had some of the stuffing knocked out of him, and down the stretch he played with a lethargy that he'd never exhibited before...but that was following the Orioles surreal implosion. And who knows what kind of sunshine the O's front office blew up his a** when he signed with them? His petulance may be a direct result of his feeling lied to. Nevertheless, he's still crying bad, and it ain't pretty. The Willis example is a good one. There's a guy with class. Although, as JeremyR points out, Willis has something to look forward to: the Fish are stocked with young talent. If his team was as deflated as the O's are, as *ahem* juiceless, maybe he'd be singing a different tune.
Dillon was drafted by the bengals, Tejada chose the O's.
Exactly. Tejada left a team that was perenially in the playoffs, unlike Dillon. Tejada signed a long-term, guaranteed contract, unlike Dillon. So Caveat Emptor. If you want to sign for six years in the most competitive (or at least, most well-funded) division, proceed with caution.
I personally like what Furcal did this past off-season. For sacrificing some long-term stability, he 1) guaranteed that he can get out if the going gets bad in three years at worst (and if he demands a trade, he's not immovable like Tejada is), and 2) will make even more in his next contract assuming he continues to play at his level and MLB revenues keep shooting through the roof. This is what premier FAs should do.
"as much as he sounds like a whiner...he does have a point."
That just makes him a selfish prick with a point.
Millions in the bank and the ability to hit the cover off the ball are guarantors neither of wisdom nor of discretion. Everyone needs to stop with the Capt. Renault routine everytime an athlete says something stupid.
HAHAHA, Tim! How right you are.
The "me" thing sounds awfully familiar to sometimes teammate Super Sammy.
I don't know how you mold 72-million-men into a team, but it's been done before and it seems that leadership is an important ingredient, one the O's have had little or none of in a while, starting with ownership.
Has Angelos found a clue yet?
Unhappy with the Orioles Miggy?
Join the freaking club.
It's amazing how hard he's worked to fall out of favor with Baltimoreans. He was about the last bright spot this organization had going into 2006. Here's hoping the O's trade him for a bag of goodies instead of a short-term fix (if playing for third can be considered a fix) all-star swap
Is it possible the quote was mis-translated from Spanish? I believe something similar happened with Tejada's original trade demand.
He is trying to force a trade to be with Big Papi in Boston. The Orioles r LOSERS. They will ALWAYS be LOSERS. Everyone knows it. I wouldnt want to plat there either !
loser glad the a's let him walk and have kept realifly competitive. when are the orioles going to figure it out and stop having premaddona short stops.
the only thing i like about miggy being on the o's is that he is picking up cal ripken's ironman legacy (playing the same position), even if he is 10 years away.
