Williams Still a Yankee

Bernie Williams agreed to a $1.5 million dollar contract with the Yankees. I think this is good for Bernine and the team. It doesn't make the team better, but so many people complain about player and team loyalty, it's good to see a pillar of the franchise get a chance to finish his career with the only team he's known.

Maybe the Red Sox can trade for Bubba Crosby.

Maybe the Red Sox can trade for Bubba Crosby.

A 29-yo rookie? Hmm... lemme think about that for a second... No! :-)

Jason, I think trading for Bubba was a joke... :\

the Crosby comment was definitely a joke. He'd still be an upgrade for Boston at this point though... :)

What is the realism of trading for Jason Michaels? Or because of players like Endy Chavez and other notable non-tendered players, the probability of still picking up a free agent? What is the trade route really like? ESPN has a poll asking whether it is more realistic to acquire Jeremy Reed, Torii Hunter or other players.

Yes, and my comment was in jest.

can someone please explain to me why the sox dealt renteria? was he really THAT bad? i know marte is supposed to be nasty, but they now have a HUGE hole at SS.

Blue Jays fans were quick to want to part with their much beloved ROY from just a season ago - Eric Hinske. Though the team struggled a little last year, they have three very capable 3B - Shea Hillenbrand, Corey Koskie and Eric Hinske. Each one of them have the skills of a good Major League 3B. Koskie was recovering from injury last year - I expect good things from him this season. Hillenbrand is very capable of playing any corner INF position and corner OF position, and Hinske was ROY. Likewise, with the acquisition of a 1B this offseason, I do not foresee much further moves to help 3B. If the Blue Jays do make another move, I would predict it would be for another OF.

I know that the Braves originally had the question of who to start at SS this season (Betemit or Marte, or whether to play Marte at 3B and Jones in LF, or vice versa). Though the Red Sox traded away Renteria (who had many cold spells last season - though he had a great month in the middle of last season), the Red Sox needed to upgrade the position defensively - it doesn't really matter offensively. The original thought was to trade Marte to Tampa Bay for Julio Lugo. That doesn't seem likely anymore. I see the Red Sox signing Alex Gonzalez from the Marlins and trading for a CF (Jeremy Reed). I believe they might be able to hold onto Marte (and then the Hanley Ramirez trade won't hurt as much). People forget that currently the Red Sox intend on using Youkulis at 1B (not 3B) - Big Papi will be DH. Though Lowell may be playing 3B/DH at times, I think the Red Sox wanted someone to be able to replace Lowell if he continues his struggles.

i agree with bob.

braves will win the east again next year and maybe be in the world series. but who leads off now that furcal is gone? laroche?

the red soxs have hit the reverse gear and are in slide down the path of doom.
