Guess the Lineup

Fishstripes invites commenters to leave their thoughts on what the Marlins opening day lineup will look like. I had thought of this myself:

Dontrelle in the three-hole? Why not?

Willis batted as high as 7th when the Marlins middle infielders were injured. Why not make him the rightfielder when he's not pitching? He's probably going to be a better hitter than some of the starting position players.

Y'know, looking at some of those possibilities, it's entirely conceivable that they lose 110 games next year. Could the D-train turn into 1972 Carlton?

I thought that as well, but I think they want to keep him healthy for when the team is actually competitive again. Although, he's definitely going to hit higher in the line-up during his starts.

Back in the '30s, the Indians experimented with starting Wes Ferrell in the outfield on his days off from pitching. It was a fun idea, but Ferrell got hurt and the experiment came to a halt. I would be tempted to start him at first base where he wouldn't be at a high risk of blowing out his arm trying to throw some guy out at the plate.

I'll bet a six pack they finish above the Nats.

the guy i feel bad for is girardi. when he signed up to manage that team, he was pretty much getting a slightly used bmw.......but ownership turned this team into a lemon. with all the speculation about him and the drays and maybe cubs next year, it makes me wonder if he wishes he waited

I think the kids surprise you and compete by 08. Probably from Portland or Charlotte, but they'll compete.

Pitchers need to rest their arms in between starts, and you want your RF to have a gun, not be exhausted from throwing 110 pitches.

This fish team could lose 120 games, but they do seem to be following the path of the Indians of the last few years. Shapiro said they'd be competitive by '05 and he was right.

I love the Marlins' top five. The team won't be nearly as bad as people think.

minor league team at best, maybe have jeff conine hitting leadoff or something. hope they finish above the mets. that would be funny
