No More Nomar
This wasn't a big secret, but the Cubs basically gave Nomar his walking papers:
The Chicago Cubs have not exactly told Nomar Garciaparra to take a hike, but they have advised the veteran free agent to feel free to see if he can "find a better fit" elsewhere.
Maybe he can play center field for the Yankees. :-) Actually, he'd be a good fit in Houston, where Adam Everett is a very weak offensive shortstop. The Astros would need to trade offense for defense, but they can always bring in Everett late in the games. The Astros need to add some depth to the offense, and this might be an inexpensive way to reach that goal.
hi david!!!
great minds think alike!!
we could also trade adam and use eric bruntlett for a DR as well.
only real problem i see is that lance berkman will be the ONLY lefty in the lineup
You got to be crazy wanting to get rid of Adam Everett, he is so smooth at short. He is one of the best in the league. His hitting could be better but he is top notch at short.
Nomar could be a good fit in L.A., moving to third.
Adam is an awesome Shortstop! Weak? You have got to be kidding! Astros would be crazy to let him go, gotta keep him! He's one of the best out there!
The obvious fit is for Nomar to sign with the Yankees and move to second base. It was predestined that the Bombers would end up with Arod, Derek and Nomar one day!
It's funny to think about a yankees team with Nomar, Jeter and A-Rod, especially if the Yanks added Furcal as a centerfielder.
However, because he throws sidearm and has lost so much agility, I think he's a much better fit at 3rd base or even in the outfield. If he were willing to move to the outfield there's still an outside chance he could return to the cubs again, but it looks like there are plenty of other teams that want him in their infield. My prediction: Dodgers, 3B.
Hot air again!! jerry Rabinowitz
i luvvvv this
on my blog, everybody writing we gotta get a bat we gotta get a bat
i can't think where else we gonna plag a bat into our lineup ESPECIALLY if baggy insists on playing first and he's hitting like he did in sept.
i adore adam - he's great glove and great to watch and i KNOW the pitchers LUUUVVVV him too, but SS is the only position left to get a bat...
the phils have a real big hole at 3b he could fill.
Reech is right, above. Yanks were destined not to get just the big 3 shortstops in AL but all four...they need to get Miguel Tejada and make a centerfielder out of him after they get Nomar for FIRST (Cano is too good to lose at second)....Jason Giambi can be used to get Tejada from O's now that they've lost Sosa and Palmeiro).
fans of Nomar face what all the smart GM's now know, Nomar is done, 2nd rate at best with no passion to play the game. Nomar was wining on the bench over an in grown toe nail during the game that Jeter dove into the stands, busted up his face and caught a foul ball.
Nomar, was a great fit in Chicago if he could have stayed healthy. If the Cubs get Frucal, I wouldn't mind him playing left. He still shows he is a 300 hitter. With Pierre in Center they won't get hurt with his D out there. Besides they need a back up for the other premadonna Rameriz
