We Don't Care
Deadspin has more information on the steroids rumor of last week. It turns out it's not someone important. I believe he wasn't even on the Yankees post-season roster. So much for rumors.

And once again, Will Carroll spreads a false rumor....
JC: Not a false rumor. He just overblows the picture. All he said was that it was someone we care about, which it isn't. SportsWeekly said it was someone on a postseason team, which is half true. He was on the Yanks and they did make it to the postseason. Just, Lawton wasn't exactly an impact player on the Yanks. I wouldn't say a false rumor...just an exaggerated one.
For the record, I don't have any confirmation that Lawton is the guy Sports Weekly was referring to last week. I just have the confirmation about Lawton. There could still be someone out there; Lawton might be the guy from that story, he might not be, I don't know. I just know about Lawton.
I have something of a confirmation that Lawton is indeed the playoff outfielder in question. It's on deep background though, but I'm fairly sure this source is accurate. What a let down, if that's the case.
I'm sure there are people out there that care about Matt Lawton. His parents, for instance. Baseball historians writing books about the 2001 Twins...
Jon Heyman at Newsday (NY) is reporting that Matt
Lawton tested positive for steroids. He says that when
Lawton was not included on the post season roster, he
asked to just go home.
Lawton isn't a big name, by any stretch, but he was part of two trade deadline deals. As a cubs fan, I wish we'd just kept Jody Gerut...
Any thought on how this affects his Hall of Fame chances?
Wow, it was hard to type that without laughing.
