Red Sox Roster

It looks like the Red Sox are going to carry 10 pitchers in the first round instead of 11. I think that's an excellent idea. With one of your starters moving to the pen there's no need for an extra arm when you can give the offense more flexibility.

Unrelated to the roster choices, but did anyone else notice that Manny led the league in a defensive category?!?! He topped the league with 16 outfield assists. 'course, maybe it helped that he had more chances to make an assist--- his ZR was 89 points worse than the next worst qualified LF (!)

The Wall changes a lot -- I can't help but feel that it affects ZR as well as increases the number of opportunities for assists, as runners who have smoked a line drive refuse to settle for the single.

Manny actually has a very strong arm, and the ability to get a throw off quickly.

He can take a ball off the wall or on the hop and whip it in without moving his feet, because of that arm strength.

Manny's famous fielding gaffes seem to be more mental than based on any lack of talent in that department.

my understanding is that ZR counts any ball off the monster as playable, so manny gets a huge penalty.
