Three Way Tie

The Red Sox coming back sets up the possibility of a three-way tie at the end of the regular season. All we need is for the Red Sox to take 2 out of 3 at Fenway, and Cleveland to take 2 out of 3 at home. As Meatloaf once sung, two out of three ain't bad.

I wouldn't bet against either of those things happening

If the 3 way tie occurs, how does the playoff occur between the 3 teams?

Rob, the Let's Go Tribe guy has a good explanation of all the possible scenarios.

Actually, I think it's quite simple. The Yankees and Sox play one game to decide the East. The loser plays the Indians to decide the Wild Card.

Have to disagree with you David, we need the Yankees to win 2 of 3. I don't need an ulcer to go with my heartburn.

Hello David,

It's hard to believe that the season is ending and thatthe race is almost everything everybody wanted it to be.

WHO, made up the schedules? Perfect Fit for the game.

The only thing that could make it better is a Philly-Houston series to end the season.

But it's still pretty good (smile).

By the way, mlb.com has a story up about the attendance record set Wednesday. The story said that it's the first time the record has been set in consecutive seasons since the eighties. Really? Looks to me like attendance records were set in 2000 and 2001 before the alarming five-million drop in 2002.

Yes, this year's record depends heavily on the Montreal-Washington move. Average attendance right now is actually down a little excluding the huge effect of the move (700K in Montreal last year vs. 2.6 million in Washington with three games to go). But they sold the tickets, so congrats.

Also nice to see the story mention the minor league attandance record set this year.

... and to think that the purists had bad thoughts about interleague play and the wild card. Both have been very good for baseball. The purists have it right about the DH, but that's a different story for a different time.
