Red Sox Panic?

The Red Sox traded two very young players whose names they couldn't spell for Mike Stanton today.

The Red Sox acquired left-hander Mike Stanton from the Washington Nationals on Thursday for right-handers Rhys Taylor and Yader Peralta.

If you're building a farm system you'd like the 19 and 20 year olds hanging around. Mike Myers isn't enough? All you have to do to beat the guy is bring in a righty. I guess they want one to pitch to Giambi and one to pitch to Matsui and bring in a righty in between. Somehow, it doesn't seem worth the two youngsters.

Not if someone clears wavers. But Timlin will not be eligible for the post season roster.

Dave, I suspect you meant Stanton. Also considering how Matsui has hit lefties better this year that doesn't make much sense to me. And it's not an aberration for Matsui or just the BA that's better. Against lefties in 202 AB: .347/.387/.574 Against righties in 412 AB: .277/.351/.437

And Giambi hit a 3 run shot off of Bedard tonight, and walked twice and got hit by a pitch, putting him on base in all of his plate appearances, making me think that he's just seeing the ball really well right now and that a pitcher is going to have to have nasty stuff to get him out, not necessarily be a lefty or a righty.
