Testing the Arm

Barry Bonds is likely to be tested at the plate this evening. Should he also be tested in the field? Legs have a lot to do with generating power in throwing. Should the Padres run on Bonds as much as possible? Should they even try going first to third on singles to left? Stretching singles into doubles? The experiments the Padres conduct on Bonds in the field will be as interest as the ones at the plate.

Haven't teams been running on Bonds for a few years now? His days as a Gold Glove outfielder are long behind him.

I mean really aggressively. Run on him in situations where you normally would not, like going from first to third on a hard hit ground ball single to left.

If the Padres have a 2 or 3 run lead, I can seem them testing Bonds in left. But, in a close game, if Bonds DOES throw out a runner on the bases, just imagine the confidence booster that is. Not to mention, SBC Park will go crazy. In a playoff race, I don't think you want to mess with such a momentum changer.

Why isn't Bonds wearing any sort of brace on his knee? Even if this was only an infection, wouldn't it make sense that he would do something to support a knee that required that much effort to rehabilitate? Have you ever seen an athlete come back from a knee injury and NOT wear some sort of brace?

If Dave Roberts hits one into the LF corner, we might see an inside the parker tonight. Imagine Bonds hobbling over there and then making a weak throw to the cutoff man.

Bonds seems like he is pulling a T.O. He is trying to return from his injury a little to fast. It really isn't the healthy thing to do in the long term.
