Dempster Diving

Not content with an easy save, Ryan Dempster walked the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the ninth with a 2-0 lead against the Phillies.

Update: Dempster walks Howard to drive in a run and bring the tying run to third base with 1 out.

Update: Doesn't walking four in a row usually mean your pitcher doesn't have it? Why is Dempster still in the game?

Update: Dempster strikes out David Bell for the 2nd out. Perez will try to tie the game now.

Update: Tomas Perez strikes out as well. The announcer is describing the save as vintage Mitch Williams. Cubs win 2-1.

Ha! "Vintage Mitch Williams." That's classic.

I watched that game, and the reason why the Phillies cannot contend is that they have no bats off the bench to pitch hit and David Bell cannot hit right handed pitching at all. That game should have been tied at the very least with the situation they were in, or they at least should have used Jason Michaels -- he at least can hit a little!
