Oakland Selectivity

You can tell a big difference between the Athletics and Twins offenses by looking at the pitches thrown tonight. Blanton and Santana have each allowed just one run through six innings. But Santana had to throw 100 pitches to face 23 batters, while Blanton used just 71 to face 21. That's 4.3 pitches per batter for Santana, 3.4 for Blanton. The selectivity of the A's batters, and their ability to foul off pitches is going to drive Johan from the game early. He just gave up a double leading off the 7th.

Update: Hatteberg singles up the middle, just under the 2nd baseman's glove to give the Athletics a 2-1 lead.
