Where's Manny?

Manny Ramirez is not in the lineup for today's game vs. the Twins. If the Red Sox are not going to trade him, they should be playing him.

Update: Manny says he wants to win another World Series with Boston.

Francona said after the game last night that he scratched Manny from the lineup last night so they could talk without the press around. Apparently he told Manny that he wanted him to sit for a couple days and "clear his head," in the best interests of Ramirez and the team, and then start again on Tuesday. Whether this is baloney or not will probably become clear by 4 pm.

OK, so before psoting headlines like that "Where's Manny" maybe it'd be a good idea to research or understand the answer to that question.

With all of the news, trade talks, and hysteria suddenly surrounding Manny Ramirez, the Red Sox manager Francona decided to give Manny a break from the spotlight. That's all...

If he'd have been traded during that time, no one wouldv''e been too surprised, but he wasn't; he wants to play for Boston; and he now knows that his manager has his back when times are tough.

Sounds like a good deal for Manny, manager Francona and the Sox... as well as us Sox fans who love watching Manny hit night after night!!!

I'm glad Boston is in such a good position in regards to the pennant race that they can afford to give their best hitter three days off in a week, two of them against a team they are competing against for a playoff spot.

Secondly, what made Manny want a trade in the first place? Asking him to play when he was supposed to get a day off? He's a major league baseball player, and a superstar on top of that. Unless he's hurt, he should be in the lineup everyday until the Sox clinch a playoff berth.

My guess is that he would have been in the lineup if the Sox weren't actively trying to trade him. And, since (1) it's taboo to trade an injured player, and (2) Manny is due ~$70m through '08, the Sox' FO was willing to lessen their chances of winning these two games in order to (attempt to) improve their chances for '06-'08.
