Rogers Says He's Sorry

Kenny Rogers apologized this afternoon:

"I feel compelled to come before you and express my deep regret for my actions," Rogers said. "The incident should have never occurred."

...

"I should have acted professionally, and I regret that was not the case," Rogers said. "I am deeply disappointed. ... This incident was completely out of character, and I think you know it will never happen again."

At least it won't happen while you're serving your suspension.

Interestingly, Rogers lawyer advised against his speaking. If Rogers is taken to court, I wonder how his statement will affect the proceedings?

Not as much as the videotape of the incident. It'll be settled out of court (the civil suit), I guess for not more than six figures. He'll cop a plea to a misdemeanor, which will get washed out upon completing a year of probation.

"compelled"... Compelled by whom? Why did it take so long? I wasn't bothered much by this incident until I read this quote. Now it seems like he is apologizing because someone told him to. Sounds very childish and irresponsible to me.

I've heard commentators say that Rogers apologized.
What I read is that he offered his regret. He is sorry
that the incident happened. He did not apologize, and
did not say he is sorry for what he did.

Bah, and who cares? This is getting old. He is getting dragged through the mud because he attacked a member of the media. That's it. A player attacks a fan and it's out of the news within three days - now one that attacks a reporter? well...
