Leading the Team

Hey, he's also leading the team in SLG...for July.

Of course, it's only five games ;-)

Halfway seriously, Giambi could end up second on the team in SLG for the season. A-Rod's probably uncatchable at .576. But Matsui is the current runner-up at .522. It's possible that Giambi could push his .433 SLG up to that level over the next three months. After all, he's raised the number almost ninety points since the end of May.

As long as Joe keeps him in there every day and playing first, Giambi is going to hit. A .900+ OPS doesn't seem at all unlikely, given that he's already at .853, but his counting stats are likely to be somewhat unimpressive given his slow start, DHing and lack of playing time early on.

Still, if he really is all the way back, 30+ HRs and 100+ RBI isn't out of the question. Don Mattingly hit 26 HR and drove in 76 after the break in '85.
