Moonlight Becomes You

Tom Elia points me to this article on the 100th anniversary of Moonlight Graham's only major league appearance. The movie Field of Dreams it which Graham figures prominently, may be the only tear-jerker that makes men cry and not women.

One thing that I never got-- didn't Graham hit a sacrifice fly in the movie? Wouldn't he still have officially no at bats after he leaves the field to return to being "Doc Graham"? Just asking....

I don't think it's clear in the movie how many games he played in Iowa before stepping off the field. And, David, you're right. Makes my eyes wet, and doesn't faze the wife.

Field of Dreams was good for me, but not a tear jerker. Pride of the Yankees on the other hand will get me every time.

It's what I call the Lou Gehrig exception to the rule "There's no crying in baseball".
