Blow Out Monday

Close games were rare last night as the average score of the evening was 7.25-2.25. The closest game was Tampa Bay's 5-3 victory over the Brewers. The Devil Rays have won two in a row since Lou Piniella's ripping of upper management. In an indirect way, he ripped the players, basically telling them they're not very good. Maybe that message got through loud and clear.

"Sweet" Lou is Sour. Let him go. Obviously Pinella and ownership are not riding on the same boat. One has to fall off before the sinking ship hits rock bottem, and you know which one is jumping. The question is how soon before Lou goes. The Devil Rays are a young team with exciting prospects that will take a few more years too develop. They should both agree to let Pinella go now and bring in a manager who has the patience and the skills to guide this team slowly towards a team that will garner respect.

By the way the Charles Johnson experiement really went well.

The Tampa Bay Double A's are a travesty...they have young talent, yes, but they have no idea what to do with it. If they want to go young and really play with their youth, then that's what they need to do, not let them go useless in the minors while they play mediocre has-beens, or worse yet, never-wases. The travesty that was Roberto Alomar's move to Tampa Bay this year is one sad example. And their letting Jonny Gomes rot in AAA is utterly absurd. They have shown that they can develop talent, but they certainly don't know how to put together a major league roster even with the players they have.

The Tampa Bay Double-A's are their own minor-league affiliate, for crying out loud! AAA is a higher league than the Tampa Bay Double-A's (the 29th most popular AA team and the 88th most popular minor-league team).
