Sharing the Wins

The Hardball Times has their first installment of 2005 Win Shares posted. This year they've improved the display greatly, allowing sorting on any column. Thanks to Studes and his team at HBT for this great resource.

re: hardball times & win shares

uh, believe it or not, according to the win shares out at this time, Bobby Abreu is leading the NL in hitting win shares and Brett Meyers is leading the NL in pitching win shares.

Does this mean the Phillies may have the Cy Young Winner and the MVP Winner even if they finish 5th this year in Abreu and Meyers? After all, Abreu is on a pace for 40 HR and 40 SB and 100 W/100RBI while Meyers may well win 20 games and post a phenomenal ERA. He does have the best curveball in the NL right now.

Clemens is his only real competition right now, along with Smoltz, who I would not count out. Smoltz is a tough competitor in the 2d half of any season.

I think it means that the Phillies have two real good players on a really bad team.
