Baseball's Future
A reader sent this article about a 16-year-old phenom named D'Arby Myers. He sounds too good to be true:
His physical skills are immense. He's 6 feet 3, 170 pounds, and the way he runs, throws, catches and hits would cause any scout to list him as a top prospect.
He also has a 4.0 grade-point average, with A's in chemistry, U.S. history and American literature. A baseball player with brains. What an unbeatable combination.
But what shows that he can make it to the top of his profession is the way he plays the game. There's never a swing in the batting cage that he doesn't enjoy. There's never a moment when he's in uniform that he doesn't feel as if he has found his life's calling.
"It's the sport I feel connected with," he said. "I played all the other sports … basketball, football, even hockey … but there's something about baseball that brings me joy inside. Since I was little, all I've wanted to do was play ball."
Is he the next teenager to make the majors?

IIRC, Todd Van Poppel also had a 4.0
...
I guess you could say at least he made the majors!
Leave the kid alone - let him be a kid. If not, I smell a quick burnout.
I hope he doesn't get labeled The Next Big Thing, and start believing the hype. A swollen head can do more damage than a swollen arm.
I don't have the link, but I'd be curious to see whether the original article was dated April 1st.
Could be the latest Sidd Finch.
Most people would kill to be TVP. But if he's smart, life does not end with baseball.
I'm a baseball scouting director, I just seen him play among the best in the nation, in Joplin, MO; He's the real deal he's very gifted, remember his name.
D'Arby Myers is the next great thing. Before baseball he's a Great Kid. D'Arby was a student of mine and before the I knew he was a great baseball player I knew him as a great student. Very Humble and Respectable. MLB will be Blessed to have him represent them one day.

He is my best friend. People want to be his friend because he might go to the pros but I was cool with him before I knew who he really was.
With hopes that Mr. Myers reads this, I am so proud of him. I was just reading about this young man and it brought tears of joy to me. What an outstanding individual! Great job mom and D'Arby please do keep up the good work. Through your photos and different write-ups, I can see your morals and values. They shine. Please keep it up in whichever rode you choose.
what are darbys weaknesses ...
D'arby Myers is a excellent person overall. He shines in everything he does and makes all of those who have come in contact with him realize how special they are in their own right. He is talented, intelligent and he makes me proud to know that there are people out there who still strive for success and perfection.
This is amazing! It's cool to find someone young out there just doing great in sport and already striving for going into major league!
I played against D'arby and Westchester. He is so good and talented his weakness is the high heat.
I met D'arby at Phillies Spring Training this Spring. He seems like a great guy and I hope he can find his way to the Phils roster in a few years!
