Needing Scorecards

The Cubs have dropped the names of their players from the back of their home uniforms. As Bob Brenly commented, "They did it to confuse the new announcers!" :-)

So have the Dodgers, which makes no sense when there was such a large turnover in personnel.

this no names bullstuff has GOT to stop. the giants and dodgers have pulled this, too.

i don't need the names for my stros cuz i watch em all the time, but for the rest of the teams, i don't know them. most people watch baseball on tv and when you don't know who is who it is REAL annoying.

Amen! I can see doing it for an occasional retro game, but I find it very annoying. It just makes it harder to follow the game on TV. I was used to the Yankees doing it (just gives this Mets fan another reason to dislike them), but I found it particularly frustrating when I caught a few innings of a Dodgers at Giants game last week. I thought NL teams had to have names on at least the road uniforms, but the Dodgers did not. With no names on the Giants home jerseys, I couldn't tell who ANYBODY was. All other major pro league (NFL, NBA, even the NHL, when playing) puts the player name on the back so fans can tell who it is AT A GLANCE! BUd Selig should mandate it across Major League Baseball. It's a minor concession to fans, and would even help merchandizing. (Whenever I see a Yankee shirt in a store with a player name on it, I know it's bogus. That's just the way they SHOULD look!)

I think the no names on the uniforms is terrific. The name on the front is always more importent then the name on the back. If Joe Dimaggio and Ted williams could do it why not now. I think it emphasis the team and not the individual.
