Canseco vs. Palmeiro

Rafael Palmeiro is considering taking Jose Canseco to court over Jose's steroid charges.

Palmeiro issued a statement last month in which he denied he ever used steroids, and he emphatically backed up that assertion Thursday after his first practice of spring training. Palmeiro also said he's considered hiring the law firm of Orioles owner Peter Angelos to take legal action against Canseco.

"The one thing I can say is I have the best law firm and the best lawyer standing in the wings in Peter Angelos," he said. "I have options available for me. He stands behind me and he's ready. I will look at all my options and I'll decide."

I'd actually like to see both Canseco and Palmeiro take the stand under oath and see who the jury believes is more credible.

Of all the players Canseco accused, Palmeiro seems the least likely to have been 'juiced.' His physique was not bulky, and it's obvious the power surge he experienced in later years was due to an adjustment in his swing as he began to become more of a pull hitter rather than spraying the ball all over the field. The Ballpark in Arlington, with it's short right field porch and prevailing winds, were an ideal location for his beautiful left-handed stroke. Also, none of his home runs were exactly tape measure shots. The vast majority just cleared the fence and were rarely more than a few rows deep. A home run is a home run, whether it travels 325 feet of 500 feet, and Palmeiro never hit balls very far -- just consistently.

Am I the only one that wonders what happens if you take Viagra and steroids concurrently?

David,

Give a few days, let see which other players join Rafael Palmiero on this suit.

Also, who doesn't Hmm.. Will Mark McGuire react

re: a good lawyer in peter angelos

Palmiero is right--peter angelos is a feared and respected trial attorney. He's one of the leaders of the plaintiffs trial bar in asbestos class action law and has been for years, and has since branched out into many areas of trial law.

It's also nice to see that he's willing to represent his players instead of being confrontational with them. That's a nice change from most owners.

re: viagra & steroids

replying to the medical question of viagra and steroids, I've personally never been on viagra. I have been on prednisone, which is a mild steroid, for my asthma, for one week at a time for each of the last six or seven years, and I can tell you that the normal side effects of any steroid are the reduction of inflammation, the suppression of inflammatory response, the suppression of immune response, and a host of other effects which are all well documented in the scientific literature. The effect for asthma is that they suppress the auto-inflmmatory response which is causing bronchial spasm and suppress the respiratory issues.

long-term use of steroids however have very deleterious effects and these are well-documented. Originally discovered in the late 1940s, steroids were first thought to be miracle drugs and articles appeared in Scientific American and other journals praising them as potential cures for practically everything. Sadly, the long-terms effects of steroids were soon made known in long-range clinical studies and steroids were soon only used in limited cases.

Viagra I am not very familiar with, but obviously it cannot be used with anyone who has hypertension or heart issues. Specific cross-effects with steroidal compounds I would check the PDR or Physicians Desk Reference specifically on that for. A person with asthma on steroid medication like prednisone might well find himself taking Viagra at an advanced age, so the cross-effects would be well worth knowing.

Of course, people of Greek descent do not require Viagra. In fact, Viagra is made of the essence of Greek male hormones.

Looks like Tom G had this one figured out a LONG time ago!!!
Or was he the one who tested Palmeiro ???!!!!!

Baseball gets 2 more black eyes.... 1 for Rafael Palmeiro and one for holding the punishment until he gets his 3000th hit!

10 days for cheating!
20 days for hitting cameramen!

I guess Palemiro's lawsuit vs. Canseco is gone, eh?
And I hope Kenny Rogers gets jail time.
