Baseball Card Day

Ever wonder when all those baseball card pictures get taken? Marc Lancaster has the scoop.

I have my own "Baseball Card Day" story. My brother and I drove to Philadelphia to see Dale Murphy on August 5, 1990. He'd just been traded to to the Phillies on the 3rd, so we had to see him. We got to Veterans Stadium early to watch batting practice. As BP wrapped, we noticed Murph posing for pictures. My brother snapped a few photos to chronicle Murph in his new uniform.

We thought little of the individual photos until early in 1991, when the new packs of Donruss came out. I opened a pack and got my first Murphy of the year. When I came to the card, I stared in silence, unable to say anything. I tapped my brother and showed him the card. We both knew the picture because we had already seen it come from our camera.

Here's a link to the picture, if you're interested.

That's actually pretty interesting... wish I could be there.
