That's Why Harvard is #1

Jon Weisman notes a story about an MIT undergraduate mocking Paul DePodesta because Paul attended Harvard. Typical of a #2 school. There's a bridge that connects Cambridge to Boston over the Charles River on Massachusetts Avenue. It's the Harvard Bridge. As you can see from this picture, the bridge bisects MIT (top of picture). This so annoys the MIT students that they call it the MIT Bridge, or make jokes about the real name.

Besides, don't these engineers know anything about numbers? I would have expected a great sabermetric article from a techie, but instead we get the typical reporter rant about how money is ruining the game! Somebody from Yale could have written that one. :-)

I'd say the feud, which is juvenile and provincial, doesn't reflect well on either school.

Somebody from Yale could have written that one. :-)

Not, however, Theo Epstein (Yale '95).

Not, however, the current President. He may have trouble reading it, not enough pictures.

Which is why W. got his undergraduate degree from Yale, and then his MBA from Harvard.

gee, college students juvenile and provincial? Who'da thunk it?

Went to a catered breakfast at MIT yesterday. The amount of Larry Summers jokes was higher than (fill in the blank yourself).

fwiw, I didn't know a single MIT student in my time there who were annoyed that the bridge wasn't called the "MIT Bridge." Any MIT student worth his salt knows the bridge was there before MIT moved to Cambridge. It would have made no more sense to call it the MIT bridge than to call it the Boston College bridge...

I remember hearing that they were thinking about changing the name to the MIT Bridge, but the people from MIT looked at it and said that they wanted nothing to do with a bridge engineered in that manner
