Having a Ball

Soxblog has some thoughts on the controversy surrounding Doug Mientkiewicz and the ball he caught for the final out of the World Series. Looks like the ball belongs to Doug. I'm sure they can work a deal to compensate Mientkiewicz for either letting them display the ball or buying it outright.

Correction: Fixed spelling.

Here's how the Sox should negotiate:

"Hey Doug, how about you give us the ball, and we'll keep your lousy ass on the roster? Otherwise, I hope you like sushi, because I've got Tokyo on the line..."

Considering the contract that Tony Batista got to play in Japan, that may actually not be such a bad thing for Mientkiewicz.

Maybe this is his ticket to getting signed. Millar might look good in Japan.

First, I think it's sad that this whole thing happened, that in the chaos of the victory, that someone didn't think to get the ball from Doug. The point is, he didn't really make
the catch--Keith Foulke did, and walked it over & underhanded it to Doug. Doug gave it to his wife, who put
it in her purse & left. For Doug to later say that "the reason he took the ball is so people could see it later on"
is a non-sequiter. I'm afraid of a guy who's this deluded--
& dishonest. He stole that ball.

David, that's the worst try on Doug M's name as I've ever seen.

'Looks like the ball belongs to Doug. I'm sure they can work a deal to compensate Mantkiewicz for either letting them display the ball or buying it outright.'

The other thing they can do is forget the ball and let M deal with it.
