In the Cards

One of my commentors had David Eckstein fitting in with the Cardinals, and he was right. The little engine who could signed a three year deal with St. Louis for a couple of million more than OC is getting in the OC. The ESPN article has David playing shortstop; I tend to think he would be better playing 2nd base because his arm is simply not that strong. But his real value will be as a table setter for the Cardinals power lineup. However, he's had two years in a row of sub-par performance at getting on base. At age 30, I don't believe his best years are ahead of him. The Cardinals haven't spent much money, but they may not be getting much of a table setter either.

I like St. Louis signing Eckstein. Even if his better days are behind him, he brings a hard-nosed, hustle-every-play attitude that's been missing ever since Vina left for Detroit. I'm not an AL fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I've always enjoyed watching Eck play the game...

I don't understand this signing at all. Over $3m for a guy who doesn't have the arm strength to play SS, is unlikely to crack a .340 OBP, and has twice as many career GIDP as HR. There has to be someone languishing in AAA that can do that.

I think Eckstein will do at least as good a job as Womack did last year for same money. Also, players tend to improve here in StL. And, his playing style will be great here.

Jocketty does it again!!

Good luck to Eck and the Cards. I don't see him playing SS and he doesn't have the speed or OBP to hit att he top of the lineup or the pop to hit att he bottom. He wasa 2B in the minors and could probably play a decent 2B but I don't see much offense coming from him. I like him as a backup but I think the Cards are going to be shopping for a SS.

david eckstein is an amazing player with a great arm. He makes just about every play that comes his way, and has a great additude with an amazing amount of perserverence, self dicipline, and HUSTLE, He fits perfectly with the cardinals and is a great ss. He can hit and feild better than renteria ever could or can. Eckstein is perfect for lead off and has his best years are still to come. That is what i belive. He is the best player I have ever seen. He gives hope to short people like me. I am only 12 but I still know all of this for a fact. He is my HERO.
