Sharing the Wealth
It seems the Red Sox players were very generous in distributing their World Series money. Good to see. There was a time when the World Series shares could be a major part of the money a player earned during the season. Now, it's more like a nice bonus. I'm glad they're spreading the wealth.
The $225K share is of course tip money for the stars, but it's a little more than that for bottom-of-the-roster players earning the $500K MLB minimum (and even more for nonplaying staff earning even less than that).
Correcting my earlier comment: the minimum is 300K not 500K, and that is just about what, for example, Bronson Arroyo was earning (according to Dugout Dollars). Players on the 40-man roster who were not with the big club for some of the season would make even less (Kevin Youkilis is an example).
Johnny Damon is the team union rep. Assuming that makes him the team leader for some of these business type issues. digest that for a few minutes.
