Goodbye, Larry
Larry Bowa has been fired as manager of the Phillies. That's what he gets for asking:
"When I got to the ballpark this afternoon, I got a call from Larry Bowa asking me to come see him," general manager Ed Wade said at a news conference. "He said he's been getting inundated with questions about his job status and wanted to know sooner or later."
"After a lengthy discussion, I decided the fairest thing to do was make a move at this time," he said.
It should have happened last year. I just wonder if Ed Wade will be around to select the next manager.

Couldn't agree more that Bowa's sacking came a year too late, David. For that reason alone, Ed Wade also should be sent packing. But he's already gotten a vote of confidence from team management. They just can't get out of their own way, these Phillies.
What blows my mind is that the crowd at Sunday's game was chanting "we want bowa" and "fire wade"...I see the arguements for firing Wade (though I don't agree quite yet), but I am amazed at the notion that Bowa should not have been fired.
Please, stop hatin on Bowa. He's just as good a manager as anyone. Wade is the cancer...symptoms are consistently picking mediocre relieveres at the trading deadline. He's way too elementary a manager.
