Games of the Day

Once again Barry Bonds goes for HR# 700. Tonight, he'll be facing Wes Obermueller. Wes has never faced Barry before. Once again, I plan to live blog his AB.

The best matchup of the day is in Oakland, as the Rangers and Athletics continue their AL West series. Ryan Drese faces Mark Mulder in game 3 of their four game series. Mulder has not pitched well against the Rangers this year, going 1-1 in two starts with a 5.54 ERA. Drese is 0-1 with a 4.15 ERA vs. the A's. Expect more runs tonight.

Enjoy!

Do you know if the roof will be closed tonight or open? I'm wondering how the ball might carry tonight.

Ned Yost grew up in the same tiny little Northern California community (population: 200) that I did, so its a thrill to see him managing in the big leagues. I was also happy to hear that he plans to challenge Bonds in this series (despite the IBB issued last night in a close game; that was acceptable). I get tired of skippers manning pathetic teams (Al Pedrique and Clint Hurdle, who might be the worst manager in the league) holding up four fingers.

Sorry, David, but getting excited about Barry Bonds breaking records is like getting excited about watching Shaq block shots from Junior High kids or the next free agent the Yankees sign to a ludicrous contract.

Sorry you feel that way. I don't know how old you are, but there was a lot of negative things said about Aaron breaking records when he approached 700. I'm glad I ignored those and watched then. I'll watch now.

700 is definitely a record worth watching. Even with smaller parks, better hitters, etc. this one doesn't come along every day.
