Games of the Day

Two very good series continue today in the NL. The Dodgers will be in Philadelphia sending Hideo Nomo against Eric Milton. There are no two ways about it, Nomo has not pitched well this year. His strikeouts are way down, less than 1 every 2 innings. Nomo has never had the control to afford to have his strikeouts fall. Unless he adjusts and stops walking people, I'm afraid his utility as a starter will be short lived. The man who paved the way for the influx of Asian ballplayers may soon be out of a job.

The Marlins try to avenge their defeat at the hands of the Astros last night as Carl Pavano host Tim Redding. After three straight starts where he couldn't get out of the fourth, Tim Redding turned in consecutive six inning, one run outings. He's the weak link in an otherwise strong rotation.

And don't forget to tune in to Arizona at Atlanta to see how many Braves Brandon Web strikes out. :-)

Enjoy!

Nomo's big problem, though, is probably going to be his propensity to give up gopher balls in a stadium that's been playing like Coors East so far.

Tonight's game could be ugly.

So what's the over/under on Brave strikeouts tonight? I'll say ten, for three straight double digit Ks for Bobby's team.

The Braves are 6th in most strikeouts by their batters so it is very possible they could have ten or more strikeouts tonight. Since none of their starters has a winning record and they are next to last in N.L. in saves with only 6. John Smoltz has only one blown save so it has been a combination of less games to save because the Braves are winning less games plus the fact that the Braves sometimes have won by too many runs to put Smoltz in a save situation. Antonio Alfonseca, another reliefer has more wins (5) than any of the Braves starters.

i'm a big nomo fan, so its sad to see his struggles rightnow, its almost exactly like the last time he had shoulder surgery, struggled the next year and asked to be traded, and spent 2 years trying to regain his form before finding it with the red sox, before finally returning home to L.A. i wish him the best, and hope he can recover and make the adjustments he needs to soon

Just heard on Sports Center that the Braves need to strikeout 12 times to tie the record for Ks in three straight. (didn't catch who or when, d'oh). I suspect they won't do that.
