Breathing Room
Hee Seop Choi just hit a three-run HR in the top of the 9th to give the Marlins a decent cushion in Coors field, 9-4. Choi is doing exactly what you want a first baseman to do. He's getting on base (.409 OBA), and he's hitting for power (.673 slugging pct). He's been almost exclusively platooned against righties, but his ninth inning shot was off Brian Fuentes, a lefty.

Can we call the Derek Lee/Choi trade the steal of the year yet, or is that too early? 3 years and 6 mil are the approximate savings Marlins got. Does anyone know the minor league split Choi has against lefty? I can't figure out why he's been restricted to platooning. Of course I have vested interest in this since Choi is on my fantasy team :)
Wilson, good move putting Choi on your fantasy team. Shows moxie. It's too early to call the Lee/Choi trade a steal for the Marlins. Lee may yet wind up with better overall numbers, plus give a couple of points for the superior glove and everyday play. But when you factor in the financial difference, the Marlins may wind up on the better end of this one. D'oh!
