Leading the Way

The Padres had a big win over the Giants tonight, 11-0. They struck out Bonds in the 2nd, then walked him until he came out of the game. The Padres got the leadoff man on in each of the first eight innings, and that runner scored in seven of those. Peavy and his relievers had no problems with the rest of the Giants lineup. There's no pop outside of Bonds.

No team looks good losing 11-0, of course. But I watched some of the Giants game last night on the Extra Innings package, and Jason Schmidt looked awful. Got mashed all over the park when he put the ball over the plate.

Everybody knows the Giants have no hitting except guess-who. But if the pitching starts to reek, too, this team could lose ninety.

This team WILL lose 90, unless something drastic happens. It will be a shame to waste yet another year of Superman, but what Sabean has done to the roster this season borders on the criminal. Unfortunately, I don't think even a 90-loss season will get him canned.

I was at the game, and although as a Padres fan I enjoyed the win, the effort put forth by the Giants made it a stinker. Heck, Padres starting pitcher Jake Peavy reached base three times and had half as many hits (2) as the Giants did for the entire game (4).

While looking at a merchandise stand at the park, I overheard one of the workers say, "We're gonna have to start stocking some more gear from the opposing teams pretty soon."
