Opening Day Impressions

You can see all the opening day impressions here.

Derek from Pinstrip News reports on opening day. He doesn't like the new scoreboards, either. Seems like the Yankees made a mistake with these.

I don't recall if I sent you this in email or not, David, but my in-laws were in town last night so I didn't make it to the Bowie Baysox opener, alas.

Those new boards sound just like what the White Sox put in last year, except:

1) The White Sox put additional new boards in each corner that basically duplicated the functions that used to be on the ones down the line (they took off the rotating out-of-town scoreboard and the clock, but added a place for pitch count)

2) The White Sox didn't take away their out of town board in Right Field.

These differences mean that the boards down the lines probably aren't used for nearly as much useful information at The Cell (mostly animations and ads), but we haven't lost any useful information, either. As last season went on, the team got better at using the new boards, we'll see if that continues (at the beginning, it was mostly ads and the occational animated thing, by the end most players had their own animated intro on the boards).
