Nevin Slams Nomo

Nomo loads the bases in the fifth with a HBP and a walk, then Phil Nevin comes up and delivers a grand slam to put the Padres up 5-0. A healthy Nevin will make a big difference in the offense of the Padres this year.

A walk later, Jay Payton takes Nomo deep to the same spot. It's 7-0. Nomo hadn't thrown that many pitches, but Tracy waited to get the bullpen going. Nomo is clearly out of gas, but he's still pitching.

2 runs and the 6th just ended, and the Dodgers have 11 hits with 20 LOB. Crazy. Our new CF has 2 hits and a BB. Wouldn't be so bad apart from that slam. :P

Shawn Green had about as bad a day at the plate as somebody can have while still hitting a home run. 15 hits, 5 walks, and only 2 runs. 3 double plays grounded into, and 15 men left on base. Pathetic! At least we got contributions from our new guys. Ugggh... Following the Angels is looking like it's going to be a lot less depressing than the Dodgers.
