Boston Injury Bug

Nomar Garicappara and Trot Nixon have both been sidelined with injuries. Enough injuries like these to the Yankees and Red Sox, and suddenly you don't have that strong a division. That's why if I'm a fan of Toronto or Baltimore, I'm optimistic going into the season. The right balance of good luck for those teams and bad luck for NY and Boston, and suddenly you have a Cinderella situation.

I hear you, but it can't be good for baseball for fans of Toronto and Baltimore needing to root for something bad to happen to Yankee and Red Sox players' health in order for them to have a legitimate shot to compete..

And who's to say that Delgado or Tejada or (fill in the star's name) won't get injured? The difference is that NY & Boston have enough talent to overcome an injury or two, while Toronto and Baltimore will be hit harder by any injury to one of their stars.

I don't think the Nomar and Trot injury will affect much this year. Nomar's cast is for precaution and Trot, well, it's too bad to see him out till May. Hopefully he'll make a speedy recovery.

I think a 'Cinderella situation' is much more likely in the short term (ncaa tournament for example). Over the long term, the law of averages generally rewards the best teams. And unless Garciaparra is out for an extended period, I suspect the division race will be between the Yankees & Red Sox.

"Enough injuries like these to the Yankees and Red Sox, and suddenly you don't have that strong a division."

Define "enough."

Cinderella can decide she likes somebody and show up almost anywhere. She really showed off her beauty as an Angel and as a Marlin the last two years. The question is: Will one of the wicked step-sisters make a comeback?

The Sox have one of the deepest benches in the league with guys like Gabe Kapler and Ellis Burks so it isn't that major...
