New Money
I saw this link at Bronx Banter about Stuart Sternberg buying a controlling interest in the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. However, Vincent Naimoli remains the managing partner:
Sternberg, 44, is unknown to Major League Baseball. A former executive of the options-trading firm of Spear, Leeds and Kellogg, which Goldman Sachs bought on Sept. 11, 2000, for a reported $6.5 billion, Sternberg does not have an option to buy out Naimoli and become the team's managing partner, a baseball official said.
There's a man after my own heart. If I made 100's of millions of dollars in a business deal, I'd go out and buy a baseball team. My guess is that Naimoli has a price, and eventually Sternberg will find it.

there is an agreement between namoli and Sternberg that will allow Sternberg to became the team's managing partner after namoli retires.
Stuart Sternberg was a childhood friend of mine from Canarsie dating back to sometime around 4th grade. My relationship with him centered around sports...he was a great competitor...and a fair-handed centerfielder by the way. As far back as I knew him, he was an honorable kid. I truly believe that these qualities are hard-wired at an early age...and these qualities tend to remain throughout life. If he were to gain control of the Rays, I believe he'd do it in a forthright and fair manner. The organization would be lucky to have his good sense and business acumen running the show.
